Wrong Thinking
'I don't want people to be disappointed with me.'
'Because it is nervous slavery.'
'Think of it like that from now on.'
~
Self-centeredness is incapable of learning a lesson from an experience, having only a wish to feel a neurotic thrill.
You get more out of a NO from life than you do from a YES.
We should be encouraged, not discouraged, by seeing how much work we have to do on ourselves. It means we are awakening to our actual condition, we are seeing our self-defeating attitudes. People who live in self-images of being positive and wise and
pleasant see no need whatever to work on themselves, so they remain in the suffering caused by living in dreamland. The worse we see ourselves to be, the more encouraged we should be, for if you know all about darkness, you also know about dawn.

Anything You Fight, You Create!
"Anything you fight, you create."
"Dwelling on your concerns actually feeds them with your energy, giving them a better chance of manifesting." “You can not think your way out of your concerns”
Avoiding Mental Snowball
Be aware of how quickly your negative and insecure thinking can spiral out of control. Have you ever noticed how uptight you feel when you're caught in your thinking? And, to top it off, the more absorbed you get in the details of whatever is upsetting you, the worse you feel. One thought leads to another, and yet another, until at some point you become incredibly agitated. The sooner you catch yourself in the act of building your mental snowball, the easier it is to stop. You stop your train of thought before it has a chance to get going.

Stronger Than You Know
Our capacity to cope successfully with life's challenges far outstrips our capacity to feel nervousness. Yet in the weeks, days, and hours leading up to an event that we believe will test our limits, we can become nervous. While we may have previously regarded ourselves as equal to the trials that lie ahead, we reach a point at which they near and our anxiety begins to mount. We then become increasingly worked up, until the moment of truth arrives and we discover that our worry was all for nothing. We are almost always stronger and more capable than we believe ourselves to be. But anxiety is not rational in nature, which means that in most cases we cannot work through it using logic as our only tool. Reason can help us recognize the relative futility of unwarranted worry but, more often than not, we will find more comfort in patterns of thought and activity that redirect our attention to practical or engaging matters.
Most of us find it remarkably difficult to focus on two distinct thoughts or emotions at once, and we can use this natural human limitation to our advantage when trying to stay centered in the period leading up to a potentially tricky experience. When we dismiss unwanted thoughts, anxiety dissipates naturally. Meditation is also a useful coping mechanism as it provides us with a means to ground ourselves in the moment. Our guides can aid us by providing us with a focal point wholly outside of our own sphere.
The intense emotional flare-up you experience just before you are set to challenge yourself is often a mixture of both excitement and fear. When you take steps to eliminate the fear, you can more fully enjoy the excitement. Though you may find it difficult to avoid getting worked up, your awareness of the forces acting on your feelings will help you return to your center and accept that few hurdles you will face will be as high as they at first appear.

The “I Am Not” Exercise
I want you to practice the “I am not” method. Write that down please. The “I am not” exercise is very simple, and you'll be working on it for many years.
I am not my name, I am not my success, I am not my failure, I am not my hopes, I am not my words, I am not my thoughts. I am not anything that I’ve been counting on to make me feel good and do good. I am not anything that my intellect can conceive. I am none of those. I am not my clever little tricks for impressing people with the way I dress, the way I talk, how eloquently I conduct myself. When I see that I am none of those, I will understand that they have nothing true to give me.
~
Say ‘No’ To Fear
I am not going to be intimidated again by any kind of darkness. It’s had its way with me long enough.
~
In the NOW
I'm going to put this as a question. What happens when you get out of bed in the morning? What should happen when your feet touch the floor for the first time, or even before that, is that you know you got out of bed. You know you're walking into the next room. You know you're turning on the water to make the tea or the coffee. That is the glorious spirit of endless self-discovery.
~
Note: All you need to be is: Present, Conscious and in the Now.
Look Up
Do this exercise please. It will take you time to get it, but repeat it over and over. Something bothers you such as a remembrance of a shameful thing, a confusion; instead of trying to think your way out of that difficulty, whatever it is, you’re going to remind yourself to look up and even do it physically by raising your head. This is a cooperation between the mental and the physical and that’s good. Now you’ve got two parts of you working for you. Look up is both a symbolic and spiritual reminder for you to go to the higher world instead of staying where you are. Simple as it is, it will be very effective for you. All the little parts will come together, and it will be quite clear to you what self-salvation means.

Persistence and Determination
What Is Persistence?
It is the power to hold on in spite of everything, to endure—this is the winner’s quality. Persistence is the ability to face defeat again and again without giving up—to push on in the face of great difficulty. Persistence means taking pains to overcome every obstacle, to do all that’s necessary to reach you goals.
To go on resolutely -- in spite of difficulties – endurance. Having a fixed purpose -- free from doubt or wavering. Firm in adherence to whatever one is bound to by duty or promise. Stubborn – Unyielding – never giving up – never surrendering – willing to die for - never to yielding to physical force – even when tortured – would rather die than betray or give up information. Refusing to relent. To be steadfast in purpose - To prevail, endure, remain, last.
The Greatest Tragedy In Life
Millions of people come into this world and leave this world and never ever realize or develop their full powers and potential. They bargained in life for a penny, and life would pay no more, not realizing that any wage they would have asked of life – life would have gladly paid. Some of those people never even tried, they just settled for mediocrity. Others, got a dream, an idea, a desire or goal, and decided to go for it, but then dropped out when the going got tough. There are many starters in life, but very few finish. Too many people give up on their dreams too soon in life.
No matter what the level of our ability, we have more potential than we can ever develop in a lifetime. Deep within every man and woman dwells those slumbering powers; powers that would astonish them, which they never dreamed of possessing; forces that would revolutionize their life if aroused and put into action.
Potential means: undeveloped -- and unrealized -- powers, possibilities, and capabilities -- that can -- but have not yet come into being. In other words, the best is yet to come! You have powers and talent you have not developed or used yet. You also have dreams and fantasies you have not realized yet. Your unlimited possibilities are still alive, just waiting for you to give them power.
Tough Times Never Last - But Tough People Do.
How would you like to see a permanent end to all of your problems? We all have problems – and our problems only end - when we do. The only people without problems are in the cemetery. I’d like to stick around – problems and all. How about you?
No matter what problems you have to face today, there is a solution, because you have nothing to deal with but your own thoughts. As long as you think that your destiny is in the hands of other people, the situation is hopeless. You will need to confront your problems with courage, boldness and action.
There’s an old Chinese saying that goes, “If you live with a problem long enough, it could eventually become a blessing.” Within every adversity in life, there is always a seed of an equivalent or greater benefit. We have to look for it - find it - and act on it.
We learn courage - when we face danger. We learn patience - when we endure suffering. We learn tenderness - when we taste pain. We learn to prize true friends – when false ones forsake us. We treasure health - when illness strikes. We learn to prize freedom -when we are in danger of losing it. Without trouble we would be like plants that have sprouted, grown, and been nurtured in the overprotected shelter of a hothouse -- too tender ever to live in the open. How can you possibly become a strong person, if you have an easy life? The tougher it is, the tougher you have a chance to become – if you choose to fight back.
When you see a highly decorated military person all dressed up with rows of battle ribbons and awards on their chest, you are looking at someone who courageously faced and conquered danger, hardships, adversities, problems, life-threatening situations, torture, injury, and heartbreak, watching their buddies die terrible deaths. These people had fortitude - the ability to endure and last. They wouldn’t quit, give up or run away. Yes there were times, I’m sure they knew, when they bit off more than they could chew, but through it all when there was doubt – they ate it up – and spit it out – the records show – they took the blows – and did it their way.
We don’t just get the sweet out of life without the bitter - we’d like to, but we don’t. The sun doesn’t always shine; sometimes there are storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, car accidents, fires and death. No one escapes the problems of life. If it doesn’t happen sooner in life, it will happen later.
We can overcome just about any problem, obstacle, or adversity that life deals us – if we have a strong enough will. Where there is a will, there is a way. Create a “bull-dog” determination and a “burning desire,” that will eventually mow down all opposition. Success is not measured by what a person accomplishes, but by the opposition they have encountered, and by the courage with which they have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. Don’t pray for an easy life, without problems – pray to become a strong person. The higher you go in life, the more problems you will have to deal with.
Determination
“ You will be what you will to be; Let failure find its false content In that poor word, ‘environment,’ But spirit scorns it, and is free. “It masters time, it conquers space; It cows that boastful trickster, chance, And bids the tyrant circumstance Uncrown, and fill a servant’s place. “The human will, that force unseen, The offspring of a deathless soul, Can hew a way to any goal, Though walls of granite intervene. “Be not impatient in delay, But wait as one who understands; When spirit rises and commands, The gods are ready to obey.”

No Need For Us To Say Anything About Others
There is no need for us to say anything about others. There is no need for you or for me to regard other's actions in our thoughts one way or another. The worst thing we can do is to force people to agree with us. I mean that we shouldn't try to impose our will when people don't behave the way we want them to. The worst thing one can do is to confront human beings bluntly.

Ever Looked Inside?
A beggar had been sitting by the side of a road for over thirty years. One day a stranger walked by. "Spare some change?" mumbled the beggar, mechanically holding out his old baseball cap. "I have nothing to give you," said the stranger. Then he asked: "What's that you are sitting on?" "Nothing," replied the beggar. "Just an old box, I have been sitting on it for as long as I can remember." "Ever looked inside?" asked the stranger. "No," said the beggar. "What's the point? There's nothing in there." "Have a look inside," insisted the stranger. The beggar managed to pry open the lid. With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw that the box was filled with gold.
~Eckhart TolleThe Power of Now
In his book, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment (New World Library), Tolle tells us that the true wealth of being can never be found outside of ourselves. It is in discovering our connectedness to all things that we find our true nature and the ability to feel 'oneness with Being.' This is enlightenment. And yet, he describes it as a paradox of "something that is essentially you and yet is much greater than you." In the absence of connectedness we experience fear and separation from our Source or true self.
Being cannot be made clear with the mind. In learning to be present and with our attention fully in the Now, Being can only be felt. It is the essence of self ... the I Am before the mind tells you that you are this or that. To have the awareness of self-realization and to remain in its state is to be enlightened.
The greatest obstacle to experiencing one's true nature is the constant chatter of the mind. As a result of using our minds, we have created labels, images, words, judgments, and definitions of people and events that shade and come between our relationship to all things. What we need to remember is that we are one with all that is. Tolle believes that the mind uses us, rather than us using our mind. This causes disease, an imbalance of being. Believing that you are your mind is delusional thinking.
Tolle asks the question ... "Can you be free of your mind whenever you want to? Have you found the "off" button?" He suggests that one begin by "watching the thinker." Once we learn to detach ourselves from the mind, we move quickly into a higher level of consciousness. We become the observer and, in doing so, tap into the vast realm of intelligence, beyond the mind, where we access the reality of beauty, love, creativity, joy, and inner peace.
Our mind is involved continuously in monologues and dialogues, imagining the future based on past events. We worry. We relive the recent or distant past and allow those thoughts and pictures to get in the way of what is real. Tolle, however, believes that you can free yourself from the barrage of voices. How? Begin by listening, as often as you can. Pay particular attention to repetitive or compulsive thoughts. Learn to listen without judgment or condemnation. This is "watching the thinker." By paying attention, you bring an awareness of self - the I am. This realization of one's own presence comes from beyond the mind and is not involved in thought.
As you begin to become aware of your patterns of thinking, you bring in another level of consciousness. Compulsive and repetitive thoughts lose their power over you. By interrupting the chatter, you create a discontinuity and what Tolle calls "a gap of no-mind" ... the beginning of your natural state of felt oneness with Being." In this space you will find an endless source of peace and joy.
Once you have mastered the art of the "watchful thinker," you can then learn to direct your focus into the Now - the ultimate meditation. Be totally present in whatever it is you might be doing. Pay attention to all your senses. Be alert. How do you know you've been successful? Tolle says you will know by "the degree of peace that you feel within."
Vital to your journey towards enlightenment is learning to dis-identify from your mind. With each gap you create, your consciousness grows stronger.
Tolle believes that 80 to 90 percent of our thoughts are not only useless and repetitive, but harmful as well. Compulsive thinking is an addiction. You feel you cannot stop because it is stronger than you. Often, you are filled with a false sense of pleasure that inevitably turns to pain.
The ego is identified by Tolle as being the false self. It is the mental image of ourselves that develops as we grow up. These are images affected by personal and cultural conditioning. The ego is not concerned with the present moment, but rather it is concerned with the past and keeping it alive. It is, as we choose to believe, who we are.
Consciousness exists without thought; however, thought requires some consciousness. In an enlightened state one learns to rise above thought. During the creative process there is a pattern of oscillating between thought and stillness, mind and no-mind. Creation takes place in the space of no-mind.
Tolle describes emotions as being the mind's reflection in the body and, like your thoughts; you must learn to observe your emotions. How do they feel in your body? Unchecked emotions manifest not only physically, but will also attract to you external events that reflect the emotion, such as anger or hostility that is unprovoked. If your thoughts and emotions seem to be in conflict, the emotion will be real. The thought is false. Watching emotions are the same as watching your thoughts.
Emotion is the result of the loss of awareness of who you are beyond name and form. The harder the mind tries to control pain, the greater the pain. The mind becomes part of the problem. When you learn to observe thoughts and emotions and detach yourself from ego or mind, just Being will reveal itself as your true nature.
Love, joy, and peace are integral to one's inner connectedness with Being; however, they are not considered to be emotions by Tolle. He believes that they come from beyond the mind, whereas emotions are derived out of a dualistic mind. For that reason, emotions are subject to the law of opposites, the good and the bad. True love does not turn to suffering, nor does real joy cause you to experience pain, unless, of course, the source of these "emotions" comes from outside yourself.
Tolle gives an excellent analogy ... "Even when the sky is heavily overcast, the sun hasn't disappeared. It's still there on the other side of the clouds." It is so with our experiences of true love, joy, and peace that are born from within. They are eternal and ever-present.
As long as we "seek to be free of desire" or wish to "achieve enlightenment" it will elude us. The need for salvation and fulfillment are external cravings, preventing us from becoming present and experiencing the joy of Being. Learn to observe the mind. Within the "mind-identified egoic state of consciousness" there exists two levels of pain: Pain we create now and pain from the past that we continue to be identify within the mind and body.
The intensity of one's pain is parallel to the degree of resistance to the present moment; therefore, most human pain is unnecessary. The mind believes that in order for us to be in control in the present, we must consider the past or future. We're conditioned.
How do we stop creating pain for ourselves and others? Stop creating time. That means stay in the moment. Create no more time than is necessary for taking care of the practical aspects of your life.
How do we stop creating time? Choose to be deeply in the moment. Instead of relying on past or future events, "surrender to what is." Tolle adds, "Say 'yes' to life - and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you. Make Now the primary focus in your life."
Be careful when the mind has labeled a moment as unacceptable, unpleasant, or awful. Accept the moment "as it is" - then act. Understand that it is your creation and learn to work with it, not against it. Pay attention to the inner workings of the mind and realize, and perhaps recognize, the resistance patterns and find the freedom to let go of external conditions. Make the moment your friend and you will transform your life.
As long as we hold on to the pain of past events, negative energy will be created within our mind and body. The emotional pain-body is an invisible entity that is ever-dormant or activated.
Pain-bodies manifest in many different forms. Some are obnoxious, but harmless, such as whining. Others are extremely harmful and can be self-destructive. It is possible for these pain-bodies to lead to illness, accidents - even suicide.
As we experience pain-bodies in others, their behavior may take us by surprise. What is actually occurring is a reflection and manifestation of our own unhappiness. Usually, it's our ego looking for drama. The more we involve ourselves with the pain, the more pain we create. It's unconscious. Pain, however, cannot live in light. Make yourself conscious of the pain you perpetuate. Until you do, you will be forced to live it again and again.
Giving attention to your pain-bodies, learning to observe them as illusions, breaks your identification with them. They no longer have power over you. You have achieved a higher level of consciousness, having accessed the power of Now.
Tolle summarizes the process in this way: "Focus attention on the feeling inside you. Know that it is the pain-body. Accept that it is there. Don't think about it - don't let the feeling turn into thinking. Don't judge or analyze. Don't make an identity for yourself out of it. Stay present, and continue to be the observer of what is happening inside you. Become aware not only of the emotional pain but also of "the one who observes," the silent watcher. This is the power of the Now, the power of your own conscious presence. Then see what happens."
Unconscious state: "Identification with the mind, which creates a false self, the ego, as a substitute for your true self rooted in Being." The ego, itself, is in constant need of attention. Therefore, many of us identify with our sense of self as being our problems, fully involved with pain and suffering. When we are not conscious, we allow our egoic mind to take over.
A way of learning to dis-identify with the mind is to "end the delusion of time." Our preoccupation with past and future - memory and anticipation - leaves us prisoners of time and our minds. Being focused on the past and/or future prevents us from the Now. Now is the only truly precious thing that matters. There is only Now.
~Eckhart Tolle

Stop The Chatter Of The Mind
Try to be quiet in every way. The body is sitting here quietly. The breathing is quiet, and as for the chatter of the mind, don’t get involved. The chatter may be in the background, but don’t pay any attention to it, don’t give it any importance. If you don’t feed it, you’ll find that it gets weaker and weaker. The mind really does get quieter. And only when the mind gets quiet can you begin to notice things. We’re here to watch, to observe. So, we have to do what we can to discourage the mind’s involvement with all that chatter. If you pay attention to all the vagrant chatter in the mind, of course it’s going to keep on going. Sometimes simply paying attention to the extent of telling it to stop actually encourages it. So if you sense anything disturbing the stillness, just let it go. Don’t get involved. Don’t let it entangle you.

Taking Responsibility for Living Happy and Satisfying Life
To live a truly fulfilled life, you must first acknowledge that you are the creator of your own life. You must recognize that the CAUSE of each event in your life is YOU. You must accept responsibility for yourself. A lot of people are afraid of the idea that they have free will and can use it in any manner they wish. Many of us go through life complaining about the situation in our lives that we see as out of our control. In this way, we deny responsibility for the events that occur in our lives.
There are no events or situations outside your control! You have complete freedom to change the things that are happening now in your life. Only you can choose to live a happy or satisfying life and if you are telling yourself that you have to wait even ONE MORE MINUTE before you begin, you are kidding yourself. When we pretend that we need something, outside of ourself, for our continued happiness or peace of mind, we experience what I call ‘attachment’. We attach part of our self-worth to an outside event, person or thing. Then we try to control our feelings of self-worth by attempting to control that person, event or thing. It never works!
Be happy is your birthright. You have the free will to choose your own life. The only catch is that if you don’t use it, someone else will. If you don’t make your own decisions, someone will make them for you, leaving you to wonder why you are always the ‘victim’. If you find yourself in a situation where you feel ‘victimized’ or ‘used’, check your memory banks. Chances are, you passed up an opportunity to make a decision so someone else made the decision for you! It is always up to you to make the life you desire for yourself. Do not wait for permission from another to unfold the real you. You have the permission with each breath you take. Use it! Remember you are the creating intelligence within yourself. Remember that your mind will think constantly, just like breathing, whether you want it to or not. It will think what you desire or what you fear. It is up to you to choose. If you hesitate in your choice, you choose the fear by default. Since you have a choice, wouldn’t it be better to have what you want, rather than what you don’t want? Remember, the time to choose is now, and the time to live happy is now. If you wait until tomorrow, tomorrow will never come.
~N/A
It is very simple to be happy, but it is very difficult to be simple.
* Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time like dew on the tip of a leaf.
* We live in the world when we love it.
* We gain freedom when we have paid the full price.
* It is very simple to be happy, but it is very difficult to be simple.
* If you shut the door to all errors, truth will be shut out.
* Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them. Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it.
* We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility.
* There are two kinds of adventurers; those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won’t.
